What our partners are saying

A Hub for Sharing and Learning

Valor is committed to serving as a catalyst for sharing and learning with other educators across the country. Like you, our school partners know that education should instill purpose and inspiration that lasts long after graduation. Together, we are building stronger school and organizational cultures, clear systems for staff development, joyful and rigorous classrooms, and so much more through integrating our relationship-based framework. We have two training programs to support leaders in education on their journey toward relationship-based schools and leadership: Compass Camp and Compass-in-Leadership.

Your Three-Stage Implementation Plan

Community Foundation

Partners will receive a full year of training and practice – Year 0 – before launching Compass school-wide. In the Community Foundation Year, we will be preparing school leaders to take ‘Compass Stance’ of kindness and curiosity as they guide faculty to make the shift towards a commitment-based culture. Your school will work to create your own community commitments and the school’s Powered by Compass team will be trained to facilitate Compass Circles for adult staff.

Implementation

The implementation stage is focused on the hard work of implementing Compass in schools, training and supporting teachers to be Circle Facilitators, and maintaining a cycle of continuous improvement to meet specific goals for Circle fidelity and quality. Partners will spend two years in the implementation stage while receiving direct training and coaching from Valor’s Powered by Compass team.

Credentialed

Once baseline metrics for a successful launch of Compass are established, partners will move to the third and final stage: becoming a credentialed “Powered by Compass” school. As a “Powered by Compass” school, partners have exclusive access to the most up-to-date curricular resources, advanced Circle facilitator training, and continued education and support in the Compass model.

From Our Partners

The widely-accepted models for school leadership are all about outcomes and academical achievement. I’ve learned from Valor that those excellence outcomes can, and should, be paired with human development goals. That requires leaders that are willing to learn how to lead from their heart, which then allows your teachers to be that same heart-centered leader for their students.

Within the year that we implemented the Compass model, we went from 112 suspensions in 17-18 to 25 suspensions in 18-19, a total decrease of 87%. The Compass model is a paradigm shift.. our scholars no longer resorted to violence as a way to resolve their issues.

In one year's time, we've determined that this is probably the best and most important work we will get to do with our students.
