Compass Camp

A Powered by Compass Credentialing Program for Select Schools to Adopt Valor’s Compass Model

Program Overview

The current education system is failing to teach our kids the key social and emotional skills they will need to meet the rapidly changing demands of our world. Valor’s Powered by Compass approach focuses on engaging students – and the community that supports them – in comprehensive human development. Our comprehensive approach systematically addresses the development of core habits and disciplines within each of the core domains of our humanity: mind, heart, body and spirit.

We help schools build communities of commitment and trust through adopting Valor's Compass model.

Valor is committed to serving as a catalyst for sharing and learning with other educators. Together, we’re changing the approach to social-emotional learning… and it’s working. Following Valor’s framework for relationships and culture could be your key to unlocking deeper connections and forming a culture of kindness and joy in your community.

Like you, our school partners know that education should instill purpose and inspiration that lasts long after graduation.

By partnering with Valor to adopt the Compass model,

  • you’ll receive direct
training and support from our Network Leadership Coaches,
  • you’ll gain access to our
curriculum for the Compass model, and
  • you won’t have to do it
alone. Through our cohort model, you’ll develop deep and lasting relationships with other leaders on their implementation journey.

Your Implementation Plan

We start by breaking-down your training into three specific stages of development. We've carefully designed each stage to prepare you to enter into the next by scaffolding your model implementation. Our certification process will monitor your success in implementation throughout the course of our partnership so you never have to wonder if you are on-track for certification.

1

Community Foundation Year

In the Community Foundation Year, we will be preparing school leaders to take a kind and curious Compass stance as they guide faculty to make the shift towards a commitment-based adult culture. Your school will begin to adopt selected features of a Powered by Compass school.

The implementation stage is focused on the hard work of implementing the Compass model in your school. You’ll be training and supporting teachers to be Circle Facilitators, and maintaining a cycle of continuous improvement. Generally, partners will spend two years in the implementation stage while engaging in direct training and coaching with Valor’s coaching team.

3

Credentialed

Once baseline metrics for a successful launch of Compass are established, partners will move to the third and final stage: becoming a credentialed “Powered by Compass” school. As a “Powered by Compass” school, partners have exclusive access to the most up-to-date curricular resources, advanced Circle facilitator training, and continued support in the Compass model.

Partnership Commitment

To achieve a successful coaching, training, and implementation partnership, schools looking to adopt the Compass mod el are asked commit to a few specific requirements:
